This is Terry.

Husband, father, Army veteran, business executive, and community leader, this is Terry Roberts.

My wife and I have lived in this riding since 1995, raising our family, supporting the community, and creating significant economic activity in the West Island. Our children were very active in sports and cultural programs (including drama, dance, baseball, football, and hockey), bringing us in contact with many different aspects of our riding.

Canadian Army as an infantry officer.

I spent 12 formative years in the army with continuously growing responsibilities. My final four years were concentrated in International and Domestic Operations. Working at Force Mobile Command Head Quarters (FMC HQ) in St Hubert, I spent three years on the Operations team, initially during the first Gulf War. From there, I spent two years coordinating all international operations supported by the Canadian Army, including multiple rotations of thousands of troops in the former Yugoslavia, missions in Kuwait, Cambodia, Cyprus, and the Golan Heights.

Stand out actions

Completing this series of roles in international operations was my 14-month tour starting in 1993 with the United Nations in Lebanon (UNTSO). Primarily working in southern Lebanon, I was Deputy Team Leader of an international group of military UN observers.  The scope of work included reporting incidents, coordinating with local entities, providing medical and logistical support to local communities, and working to establish economic activity.

Two actions stand out:

  1. Working with the local fishing community in Naqoura, Lebanon, we were able to establish and negotiate (along with the Israeli Defence Force, UN HQ, and local magistrates) safety protocols allowing for the safe operations of their fishing boats and their return to economic activity.
  2. Negotiating a local ceasefire agreement, allowing for the re-opening of the checkpoint between South Lebanon and Lebanon, returning economic activity to normal status.

My civilian career

After leaving the army, I began my civilian career in the engineering and human resources consulting services industry. I have had 25 years of successful, challenging, and diversifying experiences. I have created solutions for many of Canada’s principal companies and industries, including aerospace, defense, telecommunications, mass transit, automotive, banking, Provincial and Federal Government, and oil and gas.

Creating innovative solutions

I initially spent 17 years with CDI Professional Services, significantly growing our business and strengthening and increasing our service offerings. Creating innovative solutions for our clients, making CDI a complete service provider and industry leader in Canada, and driving growth year after year, I became the VP of Sales for Canada and International in 2002. Significant achievements include the creation of an Engineering office in Pointe Claire, numbering over 300 engineers and designers, in the aerospace industry, and creating staffing solutions for a brand new automotive plant, as well as for Canada’s leading companies encompassing all North America.

Award

I won the CEO award for a new staffing program.

I continue to provide innovative and successful solutions to the engineering staffing industry, and I am seen as a leader and industry innovator.

Community work

In my community work, I have been active in many associations, supporting their work as well as coaching. I have been most actively involved in baseball programs in Dollard, the Lac Saint-Louis region, and all of Quebec.

I was on the Board of Dollard Baseball for over eight years, including six as President. During my tenure with Dollard Baseball, I was able to grow the size of our registration by over 25%, create new opportunities for children and created a girls’ baseball program.

Testimonials

I’ve known Terry for the past 17 years. We have worked together for 6 years. I was new to the staffing world and Terry was an important mentor to me. Terry was patient and kind throughout my training process. He would often accompany me to meetings to show me the ropes. Terry is a big believer in being prepared and taught me to seek out as much info as possible in preparation. He also taught me to listen, truly listen to a client’s needs so you can build the best solution for them.

Terry has dedicated the better portion of his professional career to, not only help companies move projects forward, but help people find their dream jobs. Terry has a meaningful impact on the lives of those he works with. He truly cares for those he puts to work and is great at building lasting relationships that span decades. Terry is also one of the hardest workers ive ever seen. He works days, nights, weekends and holidays. He has a “whatever it takes” to get the job done attitude.

Terry is not afraid to support the little guy or those who are marginalised. As a matter of fact he would often champion their cause to get them a solid role in a great company. If he needed to educate a client on tolerance….he would. Many of those people are still in those companies today as key stakeholders.

Terry and his wife also supported my son who is in the arts. They came to watch an important show and were extremely supportive. I did not need to push them to come….they offered to. They both support the arts and the dreams of youth. Terry also spent many years coaching children in baseball. It’s important to mention that he mentored many teams where he did not even have his own child involved as a player. This goes to show Terry’s dedication to the community. When the time came for a new commissioner in the league, Terry leapt into action and offered his services for the good of the league and all the families involved. Terry doesn’t just care about his kids, he cares about all of our kids. and he has proven it, time and time again.

Terry is a mentor, leader and all around positive man. He cares about families, community and fair play. He puts people to work and keeps the economy moving by supporting business and major capital projects. I can’t think of a better man to fight for the rights of his constituency in Ottawa.

I’ve known Terry for pushing 40 years now.  We have worked together professionally and in volunteer organizations.

His Army skills and employment skills are perfectly suited for this role.  He has the ability to get the very best out of people, being able to understand what is important to people, and for looking out for them as people not simply colleagues.  The typical civilian thinks that in the military one simply issues orders and things get done.  Let me tell you the military environment is as complex as any unionized company.  Making things work is always a challenge.

For the three years we worked closely together – he being my right hand, he worked tirelessly performing at an outstanding level always.  He handled every type of task and problem imaginable.  His hard work contributed greatly, no enormously, to my successful tenure in command of the Regiment.

Before we worked closely I saw him arrive in the organization in an entry level position, I saw his development, his growth and maturing into the outstanding officer of his generation.
